Bernard Matsumoto

A boat captain and lifelong waterman who lived Aloha in the fullest sense of the word.
Obituary
Bernard Matsumoto, a boat captain and lifelong waterman, died on August 2 while wing foiling off Kaua'i. He was 70 and lived in Lihue.
Bernard was universally beloved, a good friend to everyone he met, and someone who lived Aloha in the fullest sense of the word. He brightened every life he touched. He didn’t take himself too seriously, was quick with a joke, and had a way of leaving people laughing. More than anything, Bernard built community wherever he went and worked to keep it, staying in touch across the years, always ready to talk story and catch up with an old friend. His passing is a sudden and painful loss.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, Shigenori and Midori Matsumoto. He is survived by his wife, Jodi Matsumoto; his children, Carly and Kainoa; and his siblings, Conrad, Steven, Robert, Jackie, Margaret, and Timothy.
A celebration of Bernard's life will be announced at a later date.
He will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
